Is there an age limit for liposuction?

If you are one of those people who don’t seem to lose fat from certain areas irrespective of your diet and exercise, then liposuction might be the only solution to your problem. However, there are many ifs and buts before you decide in its favor. Liposuction surgery in India is becoming a popular method to have a well-toned shapely body. The procedure is similar to plastic surgery in which fat is sucked out from the layer below the skin. The Liposuction cost varies from clinic to clinic and city to city.

Whether you are eligible is a factor which will best be determined by the surgeon. Some people are skeptical about the procedure due to their age. While it is true that it works well for all age groups, you will have to consider some other factors as well. In this post, we intend to point out the age-related factors that a surgeon will consider before performing liposuction.

The condition of your General Health

People suffering from certain health problems will be advised to refrain from having liposuction. People with severe cardiac issues like coronary artery disease are not eligible for the surgery. People with diabetes or a weak immune system are also advised against it. If you have restricted blood flow, then the surgeon is unlikely to recommend it as it can put you to risk.

    Skin Elasticity

If age has made your skin elasticity is poor, you may benefit from having liposuction but you will not get the best results. Poor skin elasticity results in sagging of the skin  If you have sagging skin around the abdomen or thighs, you will get some wrinkles in these areas after the procedure has been performed.

    Sensitivity to Anesthesia

Liposuction is a surgery that requires the use of Local anesthesia. If you plan to undergo treatment for large areas, you may be given general anesthesia. Some aged people do not respond favorably to anesthesia. If you have experienced complications after being administered anesthesia, then you might not be eligible for Liposuction. The older people also stand the risk of Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) which refers to the condition of long-term memory loss accompanied by other cognitive impairments after receiving anesthesia.

Being in the 50 plus years doesn’t mean that you are outright ineligible for the procedure but do check out your eligibility with your surgeon according to your present health condition and sensitivity.
